Dir: Jonathan Lisecki, USA, 2012, HD Cam, 88min
Genre: Comedy, Parenting, Relationship
Matt and Jenn have been best friends since college, and now in their thirties, are both stuck in a rut: Matt has comic writer’s block and is still not over his ex-boyfriend; and perennially single Jenn is treated with disdain by her boss at the hot yoga studio. Jenn decides to have a baby, and Matt agrees to fulfill a college promise to have the kid together. But there’s one catch - no turkey baster or artificial means, they have to have sex the ‘old fashioned way’ to conceive the child.
With their respective catty gay pals weighing in on the pros and cons of their decision, both Jenn and Matt start getting their lives back in order in preparation for parenthood. But when Matt falls for the handsome Scott, and Jenn has a one-night stand with her boss’ brother, will their plan stay on track?
Gayby is a hilarious and sexy look at two best mates who stretch the boundaries of their friendship. This debut feature by Jonathan Lisecki - who as Matt’s pal, Nelson, steals every scene he’s in - has won over 16 Festival awards, and is based on the short film of the same name which screened at MQFF 2011.
