91 Mins | CanadaWe’re in Montreal, in the summertime, circa the mid-‘80s. After the passing of her mother, a young English-speaking, Indigenous girl is left in the care of her impoverished, francophone auntie, Fred (Melanie Bray), an artist working with found and discarded objects. Rosie has to adapt to a world of new experiences and challenges as she negotiates the isolation of being an Indigenous person within a newfound Caucasian family.
As the colourful and exuberant satellite of characters surrounding Rosie expands, inclusive of gender non-conforming duo Flo and Mo, Rosie forges a new family – one chosen at least as much as it is the upshot of happenstance – in an uplifting and charming film, full of heart, from multi-hyphenate Métis filmmaker, Gail Maurice.
